Queer Country Social (QCS) Dance — with free lessons!
Queer Country Social logo
Queer Country Social
3rd Saturdays + extra dates here and there • 7-10 pm • Fall-Spring

Join a bunch of smiling queer (LGBTQ+) folks (and friends) socializing, dancing, and learning two-step, west (and east) coast swing, waltz, line dances, cha-cha, and more to contemporary country, r&b, and pop music.

No partner? No sweat.
Just come on by and there will be lots of partners to swing (or be swung by) 3 minutes at a time. Everyone is welcome.

No experience? Don’t you fret none, we’ll learn ya.
We all started at these dances stumbling through the basics and knowing how scary learning something new is. There will be people just learning as well as seasoned veterans. You’ll not be alone or without support.

Social dancing? A dance where you can be all social-like. 🙂
Our DJ of the day will play all sorts of music from contemporary country, r&b, to pop music that you can two-step, line dance, west coast swing, east coast swing, waltz, and more. If you have a favorite line dance, just ask the DJ. If we have it, we’ll work it into the rotation. (If we don’t we’ll see about getting it)

After the dance, a bunch of us usually head over to JP Licks for ice cream before it closes for the evening.

FYI, This is a nonalcoholic venue (’cause it’s a church, y’all).

Cost? Pay what you will- or nothing at all!
While we do have expenses, we need you more than we need your money. Please dance with us regardless of your ability to donate monetarily.

We currently accept cash and are working on making a Venmo option available.

Location? First Church in Jamaica Plain Unitarian Universalist • (side entrance of church across from The Footlight Club).

COVID precautions? Masks are welcome but not required and we recommend all dancers be up to date on vaccinations. Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the hall and bathrooms are open for handwashing.

Overview

Here’s a “quick” lowdown of our event: the who, what, where, when, why of it all.

Who? You.

  • If you love to dance and have fun, this weekend is for you.
  • Our hoedown attracts somewhere between 60-120 LGBTQ+ dancers and allies.
  • Everyone is welcome. We welcome everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, race, gender identity, or what role you like to dance. We just care about having fun, the joy of dance, and socializing. If you are happy to dance with us, we are so happy to dance with you!
  • No experience? Don’t fret none, we’ll learn ya.
  • No partner? We got ya covered – there’ll be tons to go around. We tend to “rotate” partners during lessons and workshops so we can all have experience dancing with folks of varying experience and styles. During social dances, it is encouraged to ask people you don’t know to dance, and it’s likely folks will ask you. This is a very friendly, supportive environment.
  • We ask participants to be respectful to each other and (most importantly) have fun.

What?
Dancing, learning, and socializing.

Our hoedown consists of:
  • 3 social dances
  • workshops
  • 1 hour of instruction before the Friday and Saturday dances
  • Laughing, socializing, and dancing yer… well… behind off

See our Schedule for more details

Registration and Cost:

Varied but a Weekend Pass is your best deal.
See Registration for a listing of prices.

If you would like to attend but cannot afford a pass, please email gfpdancing@gmail.com. While we can discount your passes, unfortunately we cannot cover the cost of transportation or hotel stays. That said, we are happy to help you find a carpool from the Boston area and/or a hotel roommate for the weekend.

Style and Music:

Country Western dancing with a twist. Our dances feature music drawn from contemporary country, r&b, pop, and other sources that you can two-step, west and east coast swing, cha-cha, country waltz, line dance galore, and more.

COVID Precautions

Up to date vaccines, and daily testing are highly encouraged but not required for Spring Stomp 2026. Masks are welcome (but optional) and we try to have a few on hand in case you forget.

Where?
Provincetown, Massachusetts

  • Provincetown Town Hall
    260 Commercial Street, Provincetown, MA

STOMP will take place from Friday – Sunday April 24-26, 2026. We chose this time of year ’cause, usually, we can’t afford Provincetown during the high season. It’s calmer (and cheaper).

Why?
We love it and want to share!

This Hoedown started over 25 years ago as a getaway and fundraiser for queer country-western dancers who were two-stepping and line dancing at Arlington Street Church. Gays for Patsy took over a few years after and has been running it for more than 20 years now.

Our goal for the weekend is to offer a safe, fun environment to learn, dance, and socialize.
