SPRING STOMP

Spring Stomp is our annual dance weekend!

Gays for Patsy‘s annual LGBTQ+ spring dance weekend held in Provincetown, Massachusetts. It features country western dancing with three dances, multiple dance workshops, and a whole bunch of socializing.

Stomp 2027 is April 9-11.

Registration will open in November 2026!

Overview

Here’s a “quick” lowdown of our event: The who, what, where, when, why of it all.

Who? You.

Photo from Stomp 2015 Saturday Benefit Dance
  • If you love to dance and have fun, this weekend is for you.
  • Our hoedown attracts somewhere between 60-120 LGBTQ+ dancers.
  • Everyone is welcome. We don’t care about your sexual orientation, race, gender, or what role you like to dance. We just care about having fun, the joy of dance, and socializing.
  • Covid Precautions: Up to date vaccines, and daily testing are highly encouraged but not required for Spring Stomp 2027. Masks are welcome (but optional) and we try to have a few on hand in case you forget.
  • No experience? Don’t fret none, we’ll learn ya.
  • No partner? We got ya covered – there’ll be tons to go around.  We tend to rotate partners during lessons and workshops so we can all have experience dancing with folks of varying experience and styles. During social dances, it is encouraged to ask people you don’t know to dance, and it’s likely folks will ask you. This is a very friendly, supportive environment.
  • We ask participants to be respectful to each other, enjoy the social atmosphere, and (most importantly) have fun.

What? Dancing, learning, and socializing.

Our hoedown consists of:

  • 3 dances
  • 6 (or more) workshops
  • 1 hour of instruction before the Friday and Saturday dances (and a couple of extra “bonus” lessons!)
  • Laughing, socializing, and dancing yer…well…behind off!

See our Schedule for more details

Where? Provincetown, Massachusetts

Provincetown Town Hall
260 Commercial Street, Provincetown

When?

Spring Stomp 2027 will take place from Friday – Sunday, April 9-11, 2027.

We chose this time of year ’cause usually we wouldn’t be able to afford to host a dance in Provincetown during the high season. It’s calmer. It’s cheaper.

Why? We love it and want to share!

Stomp feet

This Hoedown started over 25 years ago as a getaway and fundraiser for the gay country western dancers who were dancing regularly at Arlington Street Church in Boston. Gays for Patsy took over a few years after and has been running it for more than 20 years now.

His choreography includes line dances from absolute beginner to intermediate, for a variety of different styles: country, soul, pop, and even chair.

Our DJs

Bucky Chappell

Bucky Chappell

Bucky has DJed at many LGBTQ+ country dances both in Boston and beyond. He has served as DJ for IAGLCWDC conferences and for a LGBTQ+ country dance cruise. Bucky has given years to Gays for Patsy as a dancer, a DJ, a teacher, and sometimes president. He is known for his eclectic style which combines country, pop, and many songs you’d never even think to dance to! Ask Bucky how many songs he has prepared just for the line dance originally choreographed to Mmm Bop to get a sense of his range as DJ and dancer.

Art Sullivan

Art Sullivan

In addition to teaching, Art has been a regular DJ at Gays for Patsy for many years. His mix of country, pop, swing, and blues never fails to keep everyone out on the dance floor. We are looking forward to having him return as one of our DJs for Spring Stomp 2026!

Getting Here

Here are some typical ways to get to P-town

halloween cowboy boots
  • Ferry. Unfortunately ferry service from Boston to Provincetown does not start until mid May (sigh).
  • Driving. It is about 2-2.5 hour drive from Boston along Rte 3 and 6.  If you would like to find a ride, you can try posting to the GFP Stomp Facebook Page.
  • Bus. This will take longer (and there’s no way to guarantee you have a seat until you get to the terminal) — it’s about 4-5 hours or so from Boston – it make stops in most towns along the cape.
  • Fly. Cape Air has flights right into Provincetown Airport. Then it’s a short taxi ride to town. Check for available flights.

Volunteering at Stomp

Get Involved!

Photo from Stomp 2015 West Coast Swing workshop with Alan Gaskill

We don’t make money at this event. Everyone running it is a volunteer and we usually are too frazzled to court sponsors. Sooo.. that said, would you like to help us out before or during the hoedown?

15 minutes of your time can make a huge difference.

We need people to help with staffing the check-in tables, selling raffle tickets, and setting up/breaking down. The classes and workshops happening during each volunteer slot are listed to inform your decision.

Volunteer sign up link will be available in early 2027.
